Sony Acquires New Studio Ballistic Moon according to pitchbook profile

Sony has reportedly acquired a new gaming studio called Ballistic Moon, which is not entirely surprising.

The acquisition was uncovered by Gamerant, who stumbled upon an entry by the financial services firm Pitchbook.

The Entry

According to the entry, Ballistic Moon was founded in 2019 and has 47 employees, pretty standard information right? Well…yes, apart from that they are now labeled as "acquired/merged" with parent company Sony, now thats some expected but spicy news.

Who are they?

The Southeast England-based studio is made up of former staff from Supermassive Games, who worked on the Until Dawn series. The developer hasn't yet released any games, but there are rumors that they're working on a game called Project Bates that will now very likely be a PlayStation-only release.

The Trend

The trend of large gaming companies like Sony and Microsoft acquiring smaller studios is continued by this acquisition. While Until Dawn fans who own a PlayStation will be thrilled by this news, others may be disappointed because it means that future Ballistic Moon games will probably be PlayStation-only.

Only time will tell what's next for the newly acquired studio and its projects.
