Bungie Takes Aim at cheaters and Wins: Destiny 2 Cheat Vendor to Pay Multimillion-Dollar Fine

Justice is served for Destiny 2 developer Bungie, as a cheat vendor is ordered to pay more than $4.3 million in damages to the developer according to Torentfreak.

Bungie filed the case in 2021, accusing AimJunkies and parent company Phoenix Digital of copyright infringement. According to the company, Phoenix Digital was selling cheat programs that used code from the game in part.

Dismissal

The case was initially dismissed in part because Bungie couldn't fully explain how cheat software could be considered copyright infringement.

On other allegations against AimJunkies, however, Bungie's lawsuit was successful. The judge found that the cheating software not only got around Bungie's technical security measures, but also carried on doing so even after Bungie discovered it and banned it. 

Justice

Bungie has been quick to take action against other companies that create and sell cheat software for the Destiny games for a long time now, and they've often been successful in their lawsuits. This most recent incident demonstrates that they will keep taking a tough stance against those who attempt to cheat in their games.

The decision sends a message that Bungie is willing to take legal action against businesses that support such dishonest behavior and serves as a warning to those looking to make money by cheating. I can't say that I blame them.

Victory at last

In the end, justice was served for Bungie, and AimJunkies paid the price for their actions. This may not deter others from following in their footsteps, but it is a victory in the long war against those who feel the need to cheat.
